How to teach your child to meditate

Teaching Kids Meditation and Mindfulness

Sharing is caring!

I recently shared a piece over at Imperfectly Perfect Mama about the benefits of teaching children meditation and mindfulness.

When I was little, my parents taught me how to meditate, though I didn’t really know I was meditating at the time.

As an adult, I’ve incorporated those techniques into my daily life. These techniques have helped me through times of stress and anxiety. They have helped me through sleepless nights. They have helped me regain balance when momming got hard.

I knew I wanted to teach my own children these same techniques so that as adults they could also benefit from meditation.

In “How to Teach Your Kids Meditation and Mindfulness” I share how we have started teaching our kids about meditation and the different strategies you can use to build a meditation routine for your own kiddos.

One of our kids favorite ways to meditate is to use a guided meditation book. We use the book “Nightlights”. My 8 year old says this book is magic because he can’t help but calm down and relax. You can buy it here:

At bedtime, I help to get him comfy in bed and then I choose a guided meditation. They are about 5 minutes long and are really simply and soothing stories. At the end of each guided meditation are a list of affirmations.

Have you introduced meditation to your children? Do you meditate?
